Over 4 million Iraqis have had to leave their homes because of persecution due to their religion, ethnicity or their work with the media, the U.S. government or NGOs. Those who make it out of Iraq face the prospect of deportation, starvation and homelessness. Last fiscal year, the U.S. only admitted 202 Iraqi refugees and asylees into the country. Recently, the Senate passed legislation with the hope of dramatically increasing these numbers. But will it be enough to alleviate the suffering of millions of displaced Iraqis?
